Most people think of the Apple iPad as a consumer-based media consuming device. While this is a popular use case for the device, the Evernote iPad app has turned my iPad into an extremely portable note-taking device and thus, the Evernote iPad app deserves a place among the best iPad apps. I'm obviously not alone as Apple has inducted the app into their "App Hall of Fame", the New York Times listed as one of the "Top 10 Must-Have Apps" and the Evernote app has won the Best Mobile App Award from TechCrunch, Mashable and the Webbys.
The Evernote app uses a cloud-based service enabling millions of Evernote users to store anything from notes to photos and recordings synchronized from any of the Evernote clients including the iPad app. Not only does Evernote allow you to capture your thoughts and ideas, but that content can be organized into folders or notebooks and tagged so your notes are easily searchable and available for recall.
For example, I use the Evernote iPad app to record notes and audio at work and in meetings, blog ideas, business ideas, and personal notes such as the paint colors used to paint the different rooms in my house in case I need to purchase touch-up paint in the future. I even use the app to keep track of my likes and dislikes of various types of raw Oysters I eat. Other people use the app for research and class notes, use Evernote as part of their Getting Things Done system to stay organized, record bucket lists and to plan out a dream vacation. The use cases are unlimited.
The Evernote app provides another client to create text, photo and audio notes to automatically sync to your other clients using the cloud-based Evernote service. Another great feature of the app is how Evernote users can create text within snapshot for searchability and quick access. Another feature that allows users to quickly access certain notes is the ability to mark notes as "Favorite." All the notes are saved with geo-location information for mapping and searching as well.
Content can be created and synchronized with various client including Mac, Windows and other iOS or Android devices as well as the through the web site. While the Evernote iPad app is not the only client you can use to enter content into the Evernote service, the Evernote iPad app is the most portable while still being large enough to actually use efficiently.
The Evernote app is an indispensable tool that deserves to listed among the Best iPad apps.
