Will the iPad Make the Kindle Obsolete?

With the release of Apple's new iPad device, many people are wondering if the Kindle is now obsolete. Compared to the sleek Apple device, the Kindle may look like an antiquated relic from the distant past. Should Amazon be worried? Let's take a look at some of the considerations:

1. Battery Life

Here is where the Kindle may excel. Because the Kindle isn't backlit, it consumes very little battery power and can last about 2 weeks on a single charge as long as the wireless connection is turned off. The only time the Kindle uses the battery is when a new page is loaded. The iPad, on the other hand, must continuously use battery juice just to keep the screen lit.

2. Full Color vs. Black and White

The iPad definitely wins this one. The Kindle's black and white screen is nowhere near as attractive as the full color experience that the iPad offers. The iPad can also offer more interactivity that the Kindle can't match. This might include video interviews with the author or detailed maps.

3. Selection

Without a doubt, iPad users will have a larger selection of books available to them. Why is this? Well, Kindle already has a Kindle App that is available for free for the iPad. This means that any title that is available to a Kindle owner will, by default, be available to an iPad owner. In addition to this, iPad owners will also have access to all the titles that Apple offers through its deals with various major publishing houses.

4. Book Prices

This is another area where iPad owners have the edge. Because iPad owners will have access to both Amazon's and Apple's library of titles, they can always comparison shop and get the best price. Kindle owners will only have the option of purchasing the Kindle version of the book.

5. Can the iPad do for Books what the iPod did for Music?

Before iTunes, the music industry was struggling. They were losing more and more sales every year to pirated copies of their songs online. No one had yet figured out a successful business model for selling digital music. Today, Apple is by far the biggest music retailer in the world. Can they do the same for books? The Amazon Kindle has been successful on a small scale, but it has never really gone mainstream. Amazon says that the Kindle is their #1 selling product, but it is rare to actually see someone on the street using one. This is similar to the state of MP3 players before the iPod was released. The iPod revolutionized the music world. Maybe the iPad is next. Only time will tell.

Would You Buy China's iPad Clone?

Have your dreams been revolving around the iPad recently? Is your wallet getting in the way? Well, China has solved your iProblems with its new product, the ePad. The ePad is a tablet closely modeled after the iPad, in fact they share mostly similar features, except for the price! Now I know what you're thinking, do I really want something like the ePad instead of the iPad? The ePad is after all, China's iPad clone.

Well, if you're in China for one getting the ePad would be a lot easier as the iPad has yet to reach its eastern shores. Naturally then the ePad would be your only option, but what about the rest of us? Do we want an imitation of the iPad instead of just getting the original iPad?

If you're looking to cut costs then the answer is obviously yes. The ePad is half the price of an iPad and it's a cost-efficient alternative if you're pockets aren't reaching too deeply in these trying economic times. On the other hand, if you are looking for something cheaper but you definitely also want a gadget that can hold its own in terms of features, applications and general looks; is the ePad for you?

The ePad has basically the same features of an iPad, just without the brand name. Also, if you appreciate the android market these days then great for you, these Chinese imitations use open sourced android systems. What this means is all of your applications and games come from the open sourced market which is the android operating system.

Another plus is if you are looking for something that's compact, because generally imitations come with smaller screens. This is particularly useful if you want to fit the ePad into small compartments like bags and briefcases or even into your laptop bag.

At the end of the day, the ePad is generally about the same as an iPad, just without the branding. So, if you're content with a lesser known brand, with similar features and applications, why not give the iPad a go? It's definitely coming to you at a cheaper cost, and if you're in China, well, it's coming to you! It also works better for you if you're a fan of the android system, and are looking for a smaller screen to fit into your already packed life of course.

You might actually find that this version and chip suits you better than any other tablet.

You Will Have an Obsolete iPad 2

iPad 2 Features
If you haven't already purchased the first generation of the iPad, HANG ON! There is more to come. I won't forget the feeling I had just 2 weeks after I purchased my iPhone 3G when they announced the new iPhone 3GS version, soon to be followed by the iPhone 4. SO hang on as I go down the list of potential new features included in the next iPad 2nd generation.

Time 2 FaceTime
Top of the list in rumours on the net are the front and back facing cameras. If you've played with a first generation of the iPad then you will quickly notice that there is no camera, and no USB port (more on that later.) Apple seems to be putting a lot of work into their FaceTime program and so the logical conclusion many Apple gurus are professing is that the next gen iPad2 will be featuring at least a front facing camera and possibly a rear facing camera as well. There are even reports about OmniVision's contract for image sensors for both a 5-megapixel rear and VGA front-facing camera. All together this will bolster Apple's mobile video standing for sure. This type of addition can bring in new purchasers who don't already have an iPhone, iPod or iPad if for nothing else than the mobile video aspect.

A Case of Design
Apple and their thirst to dominate the market will not disappoint us, and will provide a somewhat new design and case, perhaps something similar to the iPhone 4 vs. the iPhone 3GS. There may be some slimming going on after they send the developer team on some training, hoping to bring about some more stainless steel to boost the iPad2's various antennas. Another design feature that is impossible to ignore is the analysts' predictions of a Retina Display in the iPad2. After the iPod touch, Apple showed their commitment to bringing this technology to their devices.

Ports Ahoy!
Apple, who is known for not liking to have their devices littered with ports for numerous external devices, will get a mini-USB says Goldman Sachs analysts. Mission:Repair says the iPad will have two dock connectors, allowing it to be docked in either portrait or landscape mode. I have to be honest though I find it hard to believe that Apple is going to go down the mini-USB road. More than likely they will develop some proprietary connector that will require us consumers to purchase adapters and the like to facilitate our desired external device needs. Perhaps two 30-pin ports or something similar will fit their liking.

Power and Storage Please
There is no question that the iPad2 will be juiced up with more power than it's predecessor. What would a successive generation device be without more kicking-but-power than the one before? Can you say speed bump? As in bumped up to 1.5Ghz or so. There will probably be an increase of 512MB of RAM to bring the iPad up to par with the iPhone 4. The A4 will most likely stay as apple is quite happy with it and who is to complain? The A4 is great as a low-power mobile processor alternative to the competition out there. Let's also hope that there will be a healthy serving of storage capacity, perhaps passed down from the Macbook Air. Let's not forget Apple's intention to further it's pursuits with Apple TV and AirPlay. So if anyone up there in the ivory tower of Appledom is reading this, consider this my formal request for at least 128GB in the new iPad 2. I would be most gracious and so would my kids, and their tons of videos, as we travel to and fro with our beloved iPad 2.

Like all great Apple products, the next in line is better than the last. Of course similarities will remain but with more power, storage, cameras and ports who can go wrong in waiting just a little bit longer to grab hold of the iPad 2. Invest wisely in the iPad 2 and you will be the happy owner of the latest offering from Apple. That is of course until the iPad 3 comes out and you find yourself standing in an Apple store somewhere with an obsolete iPad 2 at home and the iPad 3, $400+ and 5 inches away.

Zagg Leatherskins iPad Cases Review

ZAGG, well-known for its invisibleSHIELD, also has a line of special leather skins for different devices such as iPad. ZAGG LEATHERskin iPad case is made of genuine leather that is soft and is applied just like a film on the back surface. This remarkable design is surely a must-have because it leaves your iPad protected while still maintaining its original slim and sleek appearance.

There is practically no need to seek for an expert for you to install this unique leather skin. You can do it yourself! There are colored stickers that are numbered and arranged in order at the back of ZAGG LEATHERskin. They serve as directions for an easy application.

This leather skin has special adhesives that glue firmly on your iPad but do not leave a sticky feel behind once you remove it.
