You Will Have an Obsolete iPad 2

iPad 2 Features
If you haven't already purchased the first generation of the iPad, HANG ON! There is more to come. I won't forget the feeling I had just 2 weeks after I purchased my iPhone 3G when they announced the new iPhone 3GS version, soon to be followed by the iPhone 4. SO hang on as I go down the list of potential new features included in the next iPad 2nd generation.

Time 2 FaceTime
Top of the list in rumours on the net are the front and back facing cameras. If you've played with a first generation of the iPad then you will quickly notice that there is no camera, and no USB port (more on that later.) Apple seems to be putting a lot of work into their FaceTime program and so the logical conclusion many Apple gurus are professing is that the next gen iPad2 will be featuring at least a front facing camera and possibly a rear facing camera as well. There are even reports about OmniVision's contract for image sensors for both a 5-megapixel rear and VGA front-facing camera. All together this will bolster Apple's mobile video standing for sure. This type of addition can bring in new purchasers who don't already have an iPhone, iPod or iPad if for nothing else than the mobile video aspect.

A Case of Design
Apple and their thirst to dominate the market will not disappoint us, and will provide a somewhat new design and case, perhaps something similar to the iPhone 4 vs. the iPhone 3GS. There may be some slimming going on after they send the developer team on some training, hoping to bring about some more stainless steel to boost the iPad2's various antennas. Another design feature that is impossible to ignore is the analysts' predictions of a Retina Display in the iPad2. After the iPod touch, Apple showed their commitment to bringing this technology to their devices.

Ports Ahoy!
Apple, who is known for not liking to have their devices littered with ports for numerous external devices, will get a mini-USB says Goldman Sachs analysts. Mission:Repair says the iPad will have two dock connectors, allowing it to be docked in either portrait or landscape mode. I have to be honest though I find it hard to believe that Apple is going to go down the mini-USB road. More than likely they will develop some proprietary connector that will require us consumers to purchase adapters and the like to facilitate our desired external device needs. Perhaps two 30-pin ports or something similar will fit their liking.

Power and Storage Please
There is no question that the iPad2 will be juiced up with more power than it's predecessor. What would a successive generation device be without more kicking-but-power than the one before? Can you say speed bump? As in bumped up to 1.5Ghz or so. There will probably be an increase of 512MB of RAM to bring the iPad up to par with the iPhone 4. The A4 will most likely stay as apple is quite happy with it and who is to complain? The A4 is great as a low-power mobile processor alternative to the competition out there. Let's also hope that there will be a healthy serving of storage capacity, perhaps passed down from the Macbook Air. Let's not forget Apple's intention to further it's pursuits with Apple TV and AirPlay. So if anyone up there in the ivory tower of Appledom is reading this, consider this my formal request for at least 128GB in the new iPad 2. I would be most gracious and so would my kids, and their tons of videos, as we travel to and fro with our beloved iPad 2.

Like all great Apple products, the next in line is better than the last. Of course similarities will remain but with more power, storage, cameras and ports who can go wrong in waiting just a little bit longer to grab hold of the iPad 2. Invest wisely in the iPad 2 and you will be the happy owner of the latest offering from Apple. That is of course until the iPad 3 comes out and you find yourself standing in an Apple store somewhere with an obsolete iPad 2 at home and the iPad 3, $400+ and 5 inches away.
